Why are so many afraid of changing things for the better?

My Dad who would have just turned 100 (had he not died) used to tell me that his mother used to tell him 'People will never fly with regularity because it isn't meant to happen'. Well we do and 98% commute by individual transportation in the US. WE may be the greatest country in the world but the rest of the world is catching up fast; and they have more money to buy the energy we used to enjoy at low cost. We have sold out our own way of life by electing politicians from both parties that don't care about much except their own pockets. WE HAVE TO DEVELOP NEW REPLACEMENTS FOR FUELING OUR CARS AND HEATING OUR HOMES - WE HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE. Support these changes wether it's 10% ethanol in our gas or E85 or wind, solar or what ever. All of this bellyaching accomplishes nothing except to provide all of us a poorer future. Let's quit worrying about personal political view and work towards a more positive future for ourselves and future generations. Practice real democracy - Replace the politicians with ones that will do the right thing for the future and except no more excuses from our elected leaders.

Facts for Meat

Well 'Pal', you are ignoring the facts again.

In GWB's January 2003 State of the Union address, he announced that he was committing public money in the Billions of dollars for hydrogen fueled cars. The US Government's own website calls this "The President's Hydrogen Fuel Initiative".

Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Infrastructure Technologies Program: President's Hydrogen Fuel Initiative

The scientific community laughed, a few companies lined up at the trough, and after five years, the net is.....nada.

So, which is it: GWB did this and you are in denial, or he didn't do it and there is a vast left-wing conspiracy to besmirch his reputation?

BTW, this initiative by the feds was used in California as justification to kill the ZEV requirements that would have been saving us a lot of oil by now if allowed to stand.

There you go.
Carter's subsidies for gasoline from coal... wasted
Clinton's subsidies for electric cars... wasted
Bush's subsidies for hydrogen cars... wasted

And now people want to give T Boone Pickens a subsidy for windmills with the money coming straight out of your IRS 1040?

Some people never learn!

Nope. The fact is that George W. Bush was elected President, and at no time was he appointed to the DOE or part of the Oversight committee.

Them's the facts.

Your pal,
Meat.

OK. It is called the "PRESIDENT'S" initiative. Are you denying that? He spoke about it in his State of the Union address, and at some length later. Are you denying this?

If it was called "Meat's" initiative, would you expect "Meat" to have something to do with it? I'm trying to figure out where you are coming from, and I am suspecting it is either the bottom of a bottle of Jim Beam or you are just delusional.

As for your second question:

DaimlerChrysler, GM drop suits over state air mandate / Action removes obstacle to vehicles with low emissions

I'm done arguing with you. You obviously have a political agenda, and I'm not interested in anything but the truth.

I am denying that you know what you're talking about. But I am unwilling to deny that you're willing to blame one of the greatest presidents for any number of imagined wrongs.

I wasn't aware there was an argument. You made some misstatements, I called you on them. That's not an argument.

Then why are you making so many things up and attempting to affix blame to the wrong parties? If you were truly seeking truth, you'd ask questions, as that it the first step on the path to knowledge. Getting all angry and pointing your finger at people will not gain you any knowledge (other than pointing is rude, and you'll get your finger broken if you point it at the wrong person).

I'm glad you're done "arguing" with me, I only hope that you're done "arguing" with others as well.

Get well soon.

Your pal,
Meat.

It takes a really arrogant jerk to revel in arguing points to the point people stop talking to them.

Pickens holds considerable assets in natural gas. He wasn't born yesterday. Once a gas man always a gas man. Just another way to make a buck.
