Under sea Garage for smart car

US Submarines Phoenix 1000

The Phoenix 1000 is a 65-meter (213') personal luxury submarine...originally executed for a client and now awaits a buyer. (can you say deep pockets)

The deck saloon would have a comfortably appointed interior and would boast an incredible view for observation, both on the surface and when submerged. By fitting transparent sections into the deck of the flying bridge, a view above can be enjoyed as well.

The aft portion of the saloon has a large acrylic window, providing a view astern that also acts as a large hydraulically operated hatch. A small automobile (They mean a smart car) could be kept in the aft section if desired.

Aren't they made to 'sub'-standards?

Surely this would be affordable, with all the gas you save driving the smart. Any word on the sub's "mileage?"

In an emergency, the smart may be used as a flotation device.

I'm wondering what kind of license do you need to operate a sub? Who would give you a ticket if you weren't doing it correctly?

Hahaha. Well, if you do it incorrectly, the punishment is severe!

The hull design is actually similar to the WWII subs, that were designed mainly for surface cruising, and would submerge only for attack and evade.

It's not like you can look out the window to navigate!

Hope you have a sonar rating. GPS and radio won't work under water.

How deep does this thing go? It says the diver lockout chamber is good to 150'. 150'? I hope you know what you're doing!

Who ordered this thing, Emilio Largo?

Yeah, I know, sour grapes...I'm a few bucks short, so I'll stick to scuba diving.

The company will train you to a captains certificate if you have the 78 million to buy it. You would then have to hire and train a crew as it takes three to run this one!!

marck - Sonar, Radar, full HF/LF communications. And yes!! It is designed for surface running. Running submerged would only be to avoid rough weather on the surface. I wouldn't want to exit the dive hatch at 150', my recreational cert is only good to 60'; but I know some who do it!

Been down below 100' (Adv. Open Water Cert.), but you spend more time doing safety stops on the way back up than you do at that depth on air. Prefer ~ 30-50 ft depth, coral reefs in the Keys, hanging with the fishes and getting real time out of a tank.

My conspiracy theory statement: I suspect this is a sting operation. This sub doesn't dive deeply enough to attract the truly affluent, who would want to "wow" their counterparts with not just the opulence of the interior, but the true performance of the craft which for a sub means real depth. On the other hand, this sub would appeal to the sort of people who would like to conceal their activities from the prying eyes of the Coast Guard and the DEA. Offering a sub like this might be a way to accumulate intelligence on this target audience.
