Just looks like another NY Times attempt to 'Bush Whack' the current administration during an election year. I'm sure there is corruption in the Minerals Management Service due to the large amounts of money at stake for corporations. If these folks were in the Congress, this money would have been exchanged through a lobbyist and perfectly legal. I do not condone this conduct, but the Interior Department, I'm sure; will handle this in light of the report. AIG just cost taxpayers 85 Billion due to mismanagement, that makes me sick!!

No need to take that approach, unless you're saying the allegations in the Times report (and the Dept of Interior IG investigation) aren't correct. It appears these folks did what they did, in collusion with their oil company buddies. There is no excuse for corruption and no need to shoot the messenger when they report this stuff. Without the press we wouldn't know half of what we do now - and that's not even close to what's really going on IMHO.
Not aimed at you jwight, just frustration with the media (NYTimes). Obviously this has been going on for some time, prior to 2002. This type of inpropiraty is ingrained into the fabric of an organization, condoned by superiors and a disease that eats away at the public trust. The Department at least has the IG involved, the corruption would probably not come to light had they not.
Oil traded today still under $100 a barrel. Due to refining techniques, that's 52 gallons output of miscellaneous product (gas, diesel, heating oil, jet A etc) per barrel. Gas is $4.00 or above per gallon. Do the math.........

Government bureaucrats living high (literally) on the dime of the industry they regulate?
Why, of course the "solution" to this is more bureaucrats and less industry!
Dude, wherever there is government, there is corruption. Having said that, the inspector general is on the ball, hopefully people will go to jail, where is the drama llama?

Wanna reduce corruption in the "leases" office? Keep it simple. Don't lease. Sell in perpetuity and be done with it. The more "regulations", "incentives", "controls" and "direction" you put in place, the more bureaucrats you get, the more chances for corruption.
