make a point

I'm gonna make one more point here, then let it lay. Your individual rights end where the Ofiicer's right to stay alive begins. Think about THAT. When I used to walk up on a car, one hand was on the microphone, the other on the gun. Because I don't know you, and you might be having a bad day, and SHOOT at me. The keys to a nonconfrontational stop are easy. Keep your hands visible at all times. Respond as the officer asks, exactly as he asks. Provide your identifiers accurately (you are required by law to do so) Don't lie. We will know. Our computers are better than your fabrications. If you do not feel comfortable answering any further questions, say so in a polite way. Always always remember, once the officer walks up, it's their show. if they demand you sign the ticket, sign it. It's just a guarantee you will show up for court if you choose to contest it. This might seem obvious, but DON'T burn rubber pulling away after the stop. It'd be terrible to get dinged again.
Have a nice day.........

Understand exactly what you are saying, but not sure how it applies to an individual exercising their Constitutional rights. Unless you are saying (hope you aren't) that by exercising those rights a person is being "confrontational." If a cop asks to look in my car and I say no, am I being confrontational - again, I hope that's not the idea.

I have been motivated to post on this subject several times, however each time "jwight" posts ahead of me, expresses what I think also and pretty much in a better way than I would.

About the only thing that I observe that(to me) has been missed is;

When a "general public" posts, many show an attempt to be objective and fair to both sides of the issue.

When the post is coming from someone connected with law enforcement, there is a strong tendency to be only defensive of the police. The feeling I have had when I have called the police(non emergency) as well as when approached at a traffic stop, many times(NOT ALL) I have gotten the feeling that 'Police' come from a different planet and are sent down here to control us earthlings, never mind our 'funny little laws'. Example: If you don't give permission for a search, "There cannot be any other reason than you have something to hide".
You don't want to even think (out loud) of a sarcastic answer that is in kind, to the the statement/question the officer makes that is ludicrous, sarcastic, moronic, or most of all, just insulting to the intelligence of any normal person. 'Respect' can ONLY be earned

If I am approached or come in contact with a representative of law enforcement, I initiate my part of the conversation with respect and the demeanor reflecting the seriousness of the situation and I expect and deserve the same of the other party.

I'll get off my 'Soapbox' before I say something with which somebody might disagree.

The foregoing statements are protected by the First amendment (Thank heaven).

God forbid that an actual retired LEO who made literally HUNDREDS of traffic stops per month would try to advise you how to STAY OUT OF TROUBLE on a stop. I'm absolutely sure all the self made lawyers here know better. "229X radio, I'm 300 off forever."

Oh, and one more thing. Taking a brand new smart car to an old car show is LAME. And you all know it. Enjoy.........
