05 ForTwo CDi Turbo Diesel in Boise, ID Need Help AB/CEL

We just took in an 05 Fortwo CDi cabriolet which we will be putting up for sale soon. The problem is that the car has the airbag light on, check engine light on, and the radio needs a code and there is no one here in Boise that has any clue how to read the codes or clear them. We deal with a lot of cars and many times lights are tripped when they get detailed by idiots who remove seats without disconnecting the battery or spray electrical components. The car runs and drives just fine and I'm almost positive the lights just need to be reset. Does anyone know how to do this? Or anyone know how to get a radio code?

boiseautsport - Not sure about the 450 but my 451 was declared unsafe to drive by my dealership due to an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) warning light. An air bag sensor had been disconnected with the ignition on which set the alarm state. The dealer explained the SRS may prohibit deployment of the air bags and pretensioning of the seat belt upon impact.

I assume it is a factory radio? If not, I'll PM you with a contact who might help you with that problem.

As for the check engine light, I take it you cannot read the DTC codes Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia

or OBD Codes FQ101 : Smart Car Modifications

As for clearing them, Have you disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and had them reappear?

Hello You can connect a generic odb ll scanner and it will read and clear some engine codes, auto zone will do for free, the radio code may be obtained from a dealer in canada, or Fast Eddie(flyingtiger) also in canada, get the serial number of the radio, the srs light has to be reset with a star das scanner, or a winstar, only ones i know of that will reset it, Leonard

Hi
How much are you asking for the CDI?
Could you please post some pictures of the car?
Regard
Gus

boiseautosport,

The mechanic in Boise that knows the most about smart cars is Jeff at Swift Automotive. Give him a call at 288-1631. They are authorized to do warranty work for smartUSA and G&K converted smart cars. The local Mercedes dealership won't touch the smart cars since they only service what they sell.

I am curious though, as the Diesel CDi version supposedly cannot be titled and registered in the US since it does not meet EPA emissions. Has this car had the DOT conversions completed on it by G&K? What state title does the CDi have?
