I filled up today, as I pulled to the pump I saw it read 1.0 gallons. I added 7.0 until the click - same pump I always use. Scangauge said I had used 8.5 gallons, pump said 7.0, gas gauge said I'd used 7.7. It's all within a gallon... and all that matters is, when the reserve starts flashing, get gas. If you ever trust a gas gauge on any car to be exact, you're taking a risk. Angle, air bubbles, all kinds of things will make an analog gauge sway + or - 1/8 of a tank... the Smart's gauge is just digital on the readout, but in the tank it still relies on the same laws of physics.

Run out of gas in rush hour traffic or 5 miles from a gas station and see how proud you are that you found the exact measure of the tank... you'll probably feel pretty dumb, worse if you get rear-ended in the middle of a highway.

There is no proof. The tank is full, half or something less than a quarter. Fill up. Keep a fiver in the glove box - you'll always have gas money. And with an 8-10 gallon tank it takes less time than getting a mocha.

1. The question was answered directly form our friend at smartville... it's a 10 gallon tank.

2. At the risk of asking too much.... Can we lock this one too?
Locking a thread will only lead to a new thread being generated. It really doesn't harm anything for people to discuss this subject. Unfortunately the problem was caused by Smart because their documentation is not clear. Therefore the questions, quite reasonably, will continue.

Except for the fact that there are 2 other threads on this subject... one of which has the accurate answer from the person in smartville.... why do we need 3 threads on the same subject???

I've repeatedly driven pass 0.0 gal for 20-40 miles depending on if it's street or highway and I always fill up between 9-10 gal, well never exactly 10 but close... and this is with random gas stations and me being a dare devil but always have 1 gal of gas in a little plastic fuel container behind my seat ;)...

We bought 2008 with only 800 miles 4 weeks ago, and love it. Question: Does the trip odometer change over to the fuel reserve indicator automatically when you reach that point?
Thanks!

Once the tank gets down to around gallon 8 it shifts over to a warning count down. As it is mentioned above it is possible to go beyond when it hits 0.0, but haw far can vary between cars. Your results may Vary.
