So what exactly does one receive with the dealership 10000 mile checkup?
Is it worth the money or should I do the oil change myself?
I'm asking because my dealer said that I couldn't use my own oil because it will void the warranty. Another dealer told me it wouldn't and didn't know what the first dealer was talking about.
So does anyone know for sure that changing your oil with approved oil will/will not in fact void the warranty?

You can do your own oil changes... And for that matter you can buy the air filters and replace them yourself. I would still take the car in for the technician to give it a once over so it's documented. Shouldn't cost that much.
I do my own oil changes but I still have the service done so it's documented for warranty purposes at the dealership. Plus there's the piece of mind that someone who is trained to work on the car says it's good to go.

The 10K mile service is the oil and filter + the cabin air filter + a general inspection (brake life, coolant, parking brake, etc.). Changing your own oil won't invalidate the warranty as long as you use a filter that meets/exceeds the OEM requirement and use an approved oil (aka Mobil 1 synthetic in the appropriate weight - dealer here says 5w30 but I know that Mobil has it listed as 0w40). Dealer #1 is trying to discourage you from not paying their shop rates.
I like getting the inspection done but hated paying for the dealer labor... given how I value my time though (and what I charge clients) it made more sense for me to drop it off for the service and go play golf while they did the service. I did an oil change after the break in period, bought the filter at the dealer, and no one said it would invalidate the warranty.

Replace the engine oil, and filter. Change the activated charcoal filter for A/C/. Anyone can do.
13 other maintenance things, the dealer just looks at if you want to pay 50+hourly/fee. You can check your own tire pressure. If your wiper are smearing, you need new wiper blade refills. You light, and horn work, heater etc. You can take your car to any tire store, and have the tires looked at, for wear free. I don't think you'll need brakes, unless your a taxi driver, or race the car. Modern cars today need very little service. 20,000 miles service has a lot more thing to cover.
Look at the Scheduled Maintenance Guide booklet that came with the car.
I am coming up for my 10k service check. It is my understanding that this is a very basic service and inspection. Mostly just an oil and filter change and air filter change, as most have described here. The dealer is Smart Center San Antonio.
I tried calling today to set up an appointment to have this service done. The service person they ended up connecting me with after two or three other people, Kelly, told me I can't make an appointment. Then I asked if I could have someone else drop off my car in a few days in the morning and wait to pick it up, since he claims it is only first come first serve. I was told this service is very lengthy and could take 4.5-5 hours! My BS meter was going way off the charts at this point. Then the charge for it was $270. I don't know if I'm missing something or what, but this whole explanation seems pretty ridiculous.
I'd like to get the 10k service performed so nothing goes against the rest of my warranty but they really seem to be trying hard not to get my money. They already lost some business at 5k miles when I called to try to get an oil change done, but got "we can only do the 10k service which is pretty much just an oil change." Now it's not an oil change it is a 5 hour service!
