10k Service Cost?

I'm rolling up on the firts (10k) service, so I called the stealership and they quoted me $275. Seems a LITTLE pricey. No?

Seems a lot pricey. On the high end of the high end. I'd say "search", as this has been bandied about voluminously, but search never worked worth a crap for me. Anywhere from $100 to $250 or so has been quoted.

Oh my...that's crazy! That is like $300 after tax for an oil change and a cabin filter. Do a DIY change then go in and have the 10K service w/o the oil change. It should bring the price of it to around $60.

They do a little more than that.

I thought so too, but they check the car for stuff you probably dont know to look for, and can update the computer while its in there.

Also, I think every 3rd maintenance on the toyota is that price or more! This is once a year. Not a bad deal in comparison!

And, DIY dosnt hold up as well in court if you need warranty repair.

Well, If you live 12 hours from the nearest dealer, DIY will win for the most basic maitenence...
And here is this, coming from a guy who lives 10 mintues from the dealer.. and DIY's... I do my own oil changes, got a K&N engine filter, and a cabin filter that's less then half of what dealers charge... hence, my 10K trip to the dealer should be cheap.

Most dealers wont charge less for you doing the air and oil filters. THEY WANT DA MONEY! But if you live over an hour away from the dealer, and its a Penskie dealer, they might work something out with you. I know our Toyota dealership lets us split it up, and forgo some of the stuff I can do on my on. Like they always want to replace the air filter. Even here in the Dallas area, the air filter wont go bad in 6 mo!

And this isnt a 1991 GMC, this is a MB S class in a tiny shell. They really should discount the services if you can prove that you did it...

Never been a issue, with me. Had over 30 some new cars, in my life time. Hold on to your receipts for the oil and filters. Write down miles, in you book. A dealer can tell if the oil been changed in a car, or not.

$139 is the listed price for the 10k service at the Smart Center HQ in Bloomfield, Michigan.

It appears some of the dealers are jacking up that price as they know they have a captive customer base. Dealers in Connecticut charge almost double the going rate.

As long as there is no service manual available, most repairs after warranty will leave us at the dealer's mercy. Perhaps the the term "Stealership" is warranted for some dealers after all .

It's time for Smart Corp to step in and cap these rising shop rates. A2Jack.
