2009 Air filter removal

I feel I shouldn't have to ask this question, but I spent probably about 25 minutes working with the air box and couldn't get the lid off to get to my filter.
Looking online it looks like the 08's were different than the 09 boxes.

Thanks.

There's a thread or two on this somewhere already. It appears the '08 owners were complaining too, but someone found an 'easy' way to replace it.

Honestly, I've not looked at my '09. Figured I would worry about that when it was time.

I replaced my stock filter with a K&N . The trick is............. there are 3 clips holding the top down on the air box. problem is the one in the middle can not be seen with the intake hose in the way. Completely remove the hose clamp so you can maneuver the hose out of the way and get to the center clip. Once you undo all 3 clips the top will come out real easy.

Good luck,

I installed the BPP air filter in about 10 minutes in my '09. I'm not sure why it is difficult for some people. I just followed the instructions on this site and it seemed to go just fine. Just be sure to pop all the clips and wiggle the case out. I also attached the hose prior to replacing the cover. Good luck.

I just installed the same air filter this morning in my '09 as well... in about 40 minutes or so. The procedure was simple, in terms of understanding the few steps - the difficult part was the close tolerances. It was a slight struggle to get the top of the cover off, and even more of one to get it to fit back on.

I wonder if there's a trend developing... warmer climate = less stuggles while 45 degree weather equals skinned knuckles.

Whole slew of posts on this subject for 09's. It is a problem with the resonator in place, but more so removing the resonator. Make sure you properly allign the top's rear tangs into the box'es receiving mounts.

the 08's and a few early production 09's have the "easier" style air induction tube, the later model 451's have an updated induction tube, unscrew both 7mm screw clamps and try to wiggle/tug/pull the rubber flex pipe out and then unclip the top of the airbox and replace the air filter. very hard to do but it is doable
