Can you tell us how you calculated the 22mpg and how you drove it during that tank of gas?

To get 22 MPG, you would have had to put 9.2 gallons of gas in your tank. It doesn't hold that much.
How much gas did you put into the tank?

Define "Normal"... also, try it on a second tank b/c even though the tank may have read full at pickup it may not have been.

To calculate miles per gallon, fill the tank on the medium pump flow setting, let it turn off automatically. Drive to the point you need gas. Refill the tank on medium flow setting. Take miles driven and divide by gallons added. Do not put that last little sqeeze of gas on either fill up.

MPG = Miles/Gallons used.

In my opinion, you have somthing wrong. The worst I have got is 36 and the best is 43.5. I do not "baby" my smart now that it is broken in!

"brake in" that's what the dealership say needs to happen, but 22 MPG now , still sounds way to low, doesn't it?

Let's refrain from making personal accusations and let me also add that my normal gas mileage is 25 -27 in my smart.
