30,000 mile Self Service

I did my 30,000 mile service Saturday. Changed oil and filter, changed spark plugs, cleaned and oiled engine air filter. Every thing went well and the only difficulty was removing the bolt attaching the #1 COP. I could not get a socket on the bolt because of interference issues so I had to use a box-end wrench.

All in all not to bad.

Milage on the smart was 29,893.

Thanks for the info. Did you use the stock Denso plugs again or have you found a substitute? If so what did you use and where did you get your plugs from. I was at my dealer (Loeber in Chicago Saturday) and they want 28.95 a plug. Outrageous! I know they are special, but not that special.

How did you do with the checks that are called for at 30K?

Garage
I got my plugs from Jacksonville for $15-$16 each + shipping.

That #1 COP was slightly difficult and I had to use the open end of the box wrench when I did mine. Still, the whole plug change process only took me around 50 minutes and that included searching the garage for my tools. I think what helped me is I have an extensive set of those Gearwrenchs.

What about a coolant flush n fill.. I don't know anyone who has done that themselves yet... That may be a good idea to send to evolution..

I did use OEM plugs that cost about $15.00 ea. I check the car over each time I change the oil and do a visual inspection of the engine bay every time I check my oil. The cabin air filter did not need to be changed.
