451 Heated Seats - Burnt arse not Good!

I just remembered to report to the Service Manager at Edison that my driver side seat heater is extremely hot on either the low or high setting. He said he has experienced the same thing when driving other 451 smarties that have come in. However, he agreed to check it again but he said, it's probably something you just turn on and then quickly turn off once your toasty which is (real quick). Anyone else having this experience? Thanks, Regina

heated seats ok

My heated seats get very warm quickly on high, comfy for me, then I turn to low in a few minutes, also comfy for me...my hubby turned his off after 7-8 minutes (it was 23 here this morning), but nothing like a burning or too hot setting that you are describing. Sounds like yours definitely needs checking! Good luck!

The temp in Jersey has been in the low to mid 20 and very chilly in the am and pm. I garage my baby so the heater isn't necessary in the am but when I get to the car in the Park & Ride, it flip it on. When I engage the high setting, I switch to low within 5-7 mins and it's turned off completely after on low for another 5 mins. Mine really is very uncomfortably hot like my arse is on fire. Since I have heated seats in my Acura TL I know it's really hotter than normal. Maybe there is a way to turn it down internally when the Service Manager checks it out.

Maybe this is why the sunroof doesn't open. Otherwise when you're done and pop up you would be ejected from the car.

Since it's been below zero here in MN recently, the heated seats have been great - in the morning and after work (sitting outside all day). I have been doing the 'start on high then punch down to low...then off completely' routine. They do heat up quickly on high and can be almost too hot for comfort in a hurry.

Remember, these cars are designed for efficient use in all aspects. Perhaps the 'hot' seats can be used to warm your coffee or make toast too! Maybe I'll try using the passenger seat heater for those purposes...hmm... :-)

Sounds abnormal, we've had a bunch of cars with heated seats and in the low setting we've been able to leave them on the whole time without them becoming too hot (high setting is another thing, that can get ouchy). I remember Mini having an issue like this with some cars, the seats either being too hot or too cold, all I can tell you is that there was a wire part I had read about them replacing to fix the issue.

Believe it or not I do use the heated seats here in sunny so cal, in the morning they come in handy and I don't have to turn the actual heat on because I'm already warm in my seat! I keep it on the low setting, and find it just right, high was a bit too hot. I really do enjoy heat though, most jacuzzi's I hop into are way too hot for most people!

In Northern California, I find the low position on the seats works very well. The hi position, I'd reserve for the mountains or other really cold environment. As a safety feature all heated seat systems should have timers or thermostats that switch them off.

Nice on high for a minute or so, then low for awhile with the top down even in the low to mid '50's.
