50 Mpg - - - I Did It!!

Just filled up this morning. I fill up every Saturday.
This week, I drove 171 miles. The smartie took only 3.348 gallons of fuel.

Total mpg for the week was:
51.08 MPG!!

Lately, I've been shifting into Neutral to down hills and at stop lights. Other than that, it's been just normal driving around town. My daily commute to work is about 6 miles round trip.

Way to go... I'm impressed and inspired! (Getting to 40 MPG is still a struggle for me.)

All tips appreciated!

I'm doing nothing special. Before this tank, the best I had done was 43 MPG.
It took several tanks to get above 40.

By the way, your avatar is superb... did you make it or 'borrow' it?

Alas, it is borrowed. I'm ashamed, too. I'm an artist, and much of my work focuses on crows and ravens!

Of course, I DO realize that this mileage was on just under a half tank of gas.
My goal now will be to sustain it over an entire tank.

I've been going to Neutral when stopped because the little fella just seems to want to go
Are you coming to a complete stop before you go from Neutral back to Drive when coasting down a hill? I asked about this and got the impression that going from N to D while moving at any significant speed could be real hard on the Transmission. If you're doing something special or got some special advice, do tell

I've heard varying answers on this.
From what I understand, as long as I'm not stepping on the gas when I shift back to Drive, it won't do any damage.

How many miles have you reached on the ODO?

I am wondering if you have hit that magicaly number where I have seen many go from okay gas mileage to great gas mileage...
