Our Governor cuts out at 120 on the PA turnpike. (Big Ed Rendell, the PA Governor) :-)

I can't imagine that the governor is hard to over ride... give me a couple weeks once I get mine and I will follow up with you.

We're gonna have to figure out how to override that governor when I get my Hyabusa engine installed...I have to experience that 160 mph top end. ;)

i was hopeing maybe we could just pull a fuse or something, from the way it was pulling i think it would probably go at least 110, hope they bring in the turbo soon,, sure is fun to blow those big rigs in the weeds

I am certain that there is no way to change the RPM or speed limiters mechanically or electrically.

The change has to be in software.

Right now the only source I know for a re-map is wellsmart, smarts r us, and bigperformance. Of those Ian at bigperformance is the only one offering to accept my ECU in the mail...install it in their test 451 fortwo run it to diagnose the current program, then re-flash a new program and send it back... 375 Brit pounds sterling and the down time in transit... and if I end up with drivability problems I have to suffer the transit time while they re-flash the box...

Eventually we will get some enterprising tuners this side of the Atlantic..

Bottom line, with a fully computer controlled power-train, the only way to raise or defeat the RPM and Speed limits is with a re-map

top speed

i've heard a 451 can hit 113mph without the governor. why does everyone wanna go 160mph in an 8 foot long car? i'm quite content doing 80mph in my old 190E. (it's kinda funny, my 190E's wheelbase is 105" and the smart 451 is 106" long)

maybe for the boneville runs we could put some larger diameter tires on it, that way we could out smart the smart

quick/cheap "cheat"

if you want to go faster for less, get bigger rear tires! it will also increase gas milage and reduce the chance of getting a flat. might mess with the ESP... it monitors the speed of all 4 wheels. to keep the ESP "kosher" you'd have to increase the size of the front tires in proportion with the back. ;)
