Well it's day six... My Smart Car dealer is a Mercedes dealer and they use the same shop so it they need to repair a connector hopefully they can (the question is always which one). It scares me more to have them replace the wiring harness. Thanks for all of the input
Dan

It's day eight (10 without the car).... The problem cannot be fixed by Smart Service US in Detroit and now the problem is on to Germany. The local dealer has rented me a car to drive in the mean time (which is nice gesture).

Hopefully they can find a fix without shipping your car back to Germany.

We had the same issue with the vehicle I had here in the shop. The time delay waiting for Germany was a issue. Back and forth for over a week before they finally just told me to order and replace the wiring harness.

They are going to try a second air-bag control unit. The thought is that the first one was faulty. ETA Thursday this week (18 days).

Final update - After 19 days without the car and 2 air bag control modules they found out that a wire from the passenger seat air bag swich had shorted out on a bolt head near the emergency brake. Just another cause to add to the list.
