..you will figure that smart USA will have a training course via Internet to show/teach their technicians the right sealant/way to install a windshield or a pano-roof...
...all we need is for one of those roof to hit granny up-side the head, knocking her unconscious and driving of the side of the hill ....the news will have a field day not to mention the car review people....'know what I mean Vern?

Agreed! I keep thinking, what if there were a young mother driving behind me with little kids in the car? I would be horrified!...and then sued! Then I would have had the dealers arse in a sling...

I agree jetfuel!! There are alot of roofs flying. More than they would admit. most are coming off with the factory sealant involved. Mine almost did.

On the install side most dealer service depts don't do their own roof/glass work.

Anyone concerned should talk to Paul in parts at smart Round Rock. He is a supporting merchant here. We worked though my roof problem and learned quite a bit via smart eng. in Germany. I wanted a new roof and they said the old roof would attach better with the existing sealant than a new install. mine is perfect.

Actually the sealant is the only source. The little black tabs you found are spacers so when the dealer puts weight on the roof to make sure it glues down tight there is no contact between the roof and the metal frame.

If they are not used and the roof makes contact you will get a pretty good rattle noise.

How long did the dealer have your vehicle for the repair? If the glue is not given enough time to set it will pull off for sure. Also the prep work has to be done just right on these or...well they fly off.

Ok, I'm at the dealer now, and they said that it should be good to go. They let the sealant cure for a good day and a half, so it should be set properly. The only thing that makes me a little uneasy is that they said that they don't know what could have happened. This makes me think that if it was the wrong sealant compound, I could be driving out of here only to return again in a short week... :/ We'll see...

On a side note, my service rep did do everything he could to help me out. I think it may be just a snobby dealer...

Awesome. Instant convertible! Kind of like a James Bond movie, huh?

When I had my roof replaced, it needed to stay overnight to cure and they put sandbags on there to keep pressure. Haven't heard anything yet for replacement #2.

It would be a good idea to open the windows slightly when closing the doors for a few days so that there is no air pressure against the roof when closing the doors with the windows raised all the way. Same applies if you replace the windshield.

Our son's 2009 Challenger R/T does that automatically! Pull on the door handles and the windows open aboot 1/2" to relieve pressure when you close the doors.

Yes, my Corvette does that as well. I have heard that some BMW's do too. Looks like there is several cars now that do that. Maybe the 2011 smart will too?
