Alarm Chirps -- How to tell if it triggered...

I have just purchased my 2009 smart fortwo about 2 weeks ago and it has the alarm (that my 2008 does not).

I get the three chirps when I lock and one when I unlock, but is there a different chirp at unlock to indicate that the alarm was triggered at some point after locking? Most alarms that I know of have some kind of tell-tale chirp pattern to tell you whether the alarm tripped and, if so, what sensor (shock, motion, current draw, microswitches, etc.). Does the smart have anything like that?

Leave the windows open.
Lock it.
Wait 2 min
Put in ear plugs
Reach in and set off alarm
Wait for alarm to reset.
Apologize to neighbors
Unlock car and report back.

My '08 doesn't make any special sound or give you any indication that the alarm went off. At least I've never noticed anything when I've gone to shut it off it because I forgot to inactivate the motion sensor when left I the dog waiting for me in the car.

First replace your horn with a mini-Stebel or Wolo Bad Boy air horn. Then do as forest suggests...

The smart doesn't use the horn for the actual alarm - it has a seperate siren.

And for maximum effect, do it at seven on a Sunday morning!
Actually, how do you 'reach in and set off alarm'? What actually triggers it?

The smart alarm system has a motion detector in the car. I believe it's in those little vents above the mirror, but I'd have to check the manual. And it does work; I accidentally did what forest suggested, and off it went!

Someone at the Dealership told me that we have two motion detectors, one "near" the ignition, and another "somewhere" under the car. During a SCoA outing by the Pentagon, I (sort of) accidently left the windows open, locked the car, and reached for a soft drink a minute later. Whoop-whoop-whoop...
