Received this afternoon from AMSoil Technical Services:
"Dear Mr. Xxxxxx,
"Thank you for contacting AMSOIL.
"In response to your inquiry, neither the EaO09 nor the EaO12 have the correct threads to be used on your Smart. No filters are currently available, although Wix has designated a filter model for future release. The date of the release is not known to us, but will be posted on our website on the online lookup guide when it becomes available.
"As always, please feel free to contact us again if we can be of further assistance.
"Sincerely,
AMSOIL Technical Services"
It appears that the pending Wix filter will be #57040. As of now they say: "part number invalid and not available until officially announced through a new number announcement." When it appears, there will likely be a NAPA #xx040 also.
Update: The Wix #57040 and identical NAPA #7040 filters are now listed, respectively, for the smart. They are both ordinary cellulose paper filters.

I have been using WIX 51385 6K no problems oil is clean, was going to use Purolator L14612, Your thought's, You are the oil GURU !! Thanks, Joel
So I take it you are saying AMSoil meets the M-B specs? I know its good enough.....did not want to run afoul of warranty issues....
AMSoil apparently thinks so, but AMSoil doesn't appear on the M-B spec sheets. M-B/smart is doing us a great disservice by not citing the actual EC/ACEA and API/ASTM lubrication specification numbers. Instead they just list products ("favored," with compensation provided??). They should publish those products known to conform, AND the numbers.

See post #13 in “Bosch 3300 oil filters on sale”. Unfortunately, the better grade Purolator L14612 PremiumPLUS and the best grade, full-synthetic PL14612 PureONE filters are long enough to be partially exposed under the car.
No, no sahib; me no guru. Just do homework and keep manuscript and meditate. Sometimes speak and burn incense with monks at Temples of Filters.
N.B. Actual fitting proves that the above Purolator filters are not too long - they have 1/16" more ground clearance than the bottom of the oil drain plug boss.

Thank you old wise one, Grasshopper will ponder problem!!!!
I used the ea012 filter and it fits just fine, all dimensions and thread pitch are the same except it is longer, but is still not down so far that it is unprotected. So I hold just a little more oil than normal...what is the problem?
