Antenna boost

I have noticed over the past few weeks that my radio is having trouble recieving radio stations, even local ones. I'm sure there is some type of amplifier that can be added to the antenna cable to help reception but I have no idea what to look for. Anybody have any suggestions??

Is the trouble only AM stations or FM as well?

I would take it back to your smart dealer. we had a similar problem and it turned out to be a bad antenna cable. They replaced the cable under warranty and it fixed the problem.

My question is did you put in after market radio?

If you did, putting in the adapter from small to big is the issue. I installed new radio, put in the antenna adapter and lost most of my easy to get local stations. I then went and just bought me hidden power antenna and started getting better reception. My problem now is the antenna is in the best spot I can get due to the electronics and that the wire is too short to reach my back window. Thus I bought a extension cable of 8 ft which should not push it to the back. And it being a booster antenna, should work fine with the extra break in the line. Good luck. hope that information helps.

I just installed a Kenwood DNX6140 and reception was down to nothing. Installed a VW non-amplified antenna adaptor and everything is fine now.

I am wondering if the smart adapter is just crappy? oh well, I am moving on to get myself totally no antenna being shown on the outside.

My previous car had no problems, this car has the same radio, They swapped it in for me. Stock 9 radio. The problem seems to have gotten worse just in the last week or so. Been too busy at work to get up and visit the guys at the dealer. Seems to be only affecting FM, but thats what I mostly listen to. The CD player works fine.

I should probably give them a call. I know how busy they get.
