Anyone else have this problem with DRL?

Several months ago I paid $70 to have the daylight running lights option installed on my 2009 Passion. A couple weeks ago I was wondering if DRL had a measurable effect on gas mileage so I turned them off (using keyfob and highbeam control stalk). Now when I try to turn them back on they won't come back on again. Silicon Valley Smart Center was also unable to get them back on and they are investigating the problem.

Has anyone else been unable to reactivate their DRL? If you so and was able to get the problem fixed, what was the solution?

BTW, I was unable to see any difference in gas mileage.

Also, let's not get into a discussion of whether DRL really improve safety or not. Been there, done that.

Hi Caralarm, to reactivate did you pull back stalk and push lock on keyfob? Maybe timing off?

Yep, tried that many times. So did the service manager at the smart center. No confirmation beep and DRL don't come back on.

I too have the $50 daytime running light option, and my question is this:

My rear lights are also illuminated as well as the front headlights; is this correct? My VW Phaeton had DRL's, and it was just the HID's.

Thanks!

From what I understand it is. front and back lights come on while the dash lights remain off. I have auto lights , so I can't have DRL. At least from Smart

My DRL are sorta fixed now. The dealer reinstalled the option but if I turn them off again I won't be able to turn them on without returning the car to the dealer. You're supposed to be able to turn DRL both on and off using that secret handshake involving the lock or unlock buttons on the key plus the high beam flash of the left control stalk.

Can you tell me more about this secret handshake? I would like to activate mine but the dealer (in Devon, PA) hasn't a clue as to how to do it. Go figure...

I am in (or near) Allentown and am either looking for a dealer that can activate them or try it myself with this secret handshake...

The dealer (maybe we should say a knowledgeable dealer) has to activate the DRLs through their STAR computer. If your dealer doesn't know how to do that, what else don't they know?
