I noticed that the edges of the shade fabric run through a small half-inch "U" channel on each side, near the back, just in front of the roller. The plastic on my "U" appears smooth, but it's still only thin plastic and the slightest rough or uneven edge would eventually cause fraying of the shade edges. A batch of "U" channels with rough edges could be the cause. Ideally this part should have a coating like teflon since it's the main point of contact along the shades edges.

People: animals whom roam on earth, eat drink and sleep. some work others manage not to, for enjoyment many vacation, have hobbies or rant on the internet. These are common traits and should be expected. Research has shown these animals have a real talent for finding deficienties in every one and everything except themselves. But they still eat drink and sleep and manage to enjoy the company of each other, no matter how it appears to an outsider

Mike... one of these days something on your new car is gonna crap out or screw up

I bet a dollar you come here first to see if anyone else has had the problem, is it normal or does it need fixing... but I assure you here you will be seeking information

NOTHING in this thread was whining, crying, or complaining until your RANT after 6 members noted there is a design or reliability issue with the sun shade

Might I suggest that you, be the one to "get real"...

BTW: I will never demand or expect any SYMPATHY from you...and I suspect there are a few other folks here that are of the same mind

BTW#2: If reports of problems distress you so much... easy cure...do not read them...

yeah, i guess the guy who started this thread should have asked his dealer about the possibility of a broken sun shade before he made his purchase. These forums are for discussing these types of issues since you will usually get more information on owner forums then from the dealer since most of the sales people don't even own Smarts.

Hey now... some of us who are foaming at the mouth to get theirs are realists, too

I am a bit puzzled by the decision to bind the shade to the roof ... IMO... seems like something that might have been thought up at 4:58 on a Friday.

Read their manuals, do not treat their vehicles well (maintenance wise), put cheap oil and cheap gas in their cars, complain about how small the tires are, how many MPG they are getting, the seat does not recline, they only drive in shift mode, or they only drive in D mode, can fit all my 7 kids in it, salesperson was rude, people ask me too many questions, I can only type in pink, the shifter is stucked, my car beeps, I forgot to lock it, my key is too big, I have no spare, other people pass me on the higway, whine, whine, whine...

well said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
