That's good to hear UNTODDLY. Sounds like your car will soon be in true showroom condition. It's unfortunate that a dealer that missed the defect during prep would think they are doing you a favor for fixing it.

As I mentioned on page 3, my sunshade was out of the U-channel on the passenger side and I was going to have the dealer fix it. I didn't want to risk breaking the plastic clip.

However, I was able to easily fix it myself by unscrewing the back four of five torx screws holding the sunshade unit to the roof, pulling the whole unit down slightly, then flexing the long metal glide enough to insert it back into the plastic clip. This sounds confusing but is obvious when you look at how the screen works. I didn't remove all five torx screws as I didn't want the whole thing to come apart, which apparently is a real pain to put back together.

It such a pain that it can be compared to a jack-in-the-box. Some Dealership prefer to "warrant it" out and exchange the whole roof, instead of trying to put the shade system together again...

YEAH! I got it back today. It looks fine and the sunshade works awesome!
There is a small scuff on my left rear black exterior pillar. I'm sure it was done by the body shop who swapped the roof and not the dealership. I'll live with the scuff...

Now it is time for the Carolina crew to role!!!! Time to crash a couple of car shows Bull!!!!

Sunshade binding

Just now experienced the same problem after a few days of 100 degree heat. The shade is binding in the u-shaped clips and close examination shows that the shade itself has shrunk inwards since it has become slightly bowed in the middle and causing a pinch at the rearmost u-clips so that the shade material cannot slide through them.

Looks like the first thing on the first dealer visit. I doubt that original design & materials are up to the task of handling extreme heat. We'll see.

We're having the same issue in Tampa. The dealer said there was a design issue with the sun shade and new ones should be available next week... we'll see.

Thanks for the info & news. I take it that smart has worked up a replacement designed to a better specification vs. merely replacing what we now have?

I'll need to follow-up with my dealer, and your latest info will help.

My sun shade was replaced with the same design yesterday, and the district rep for smart told me last week that there is no redesign in the near future. Your dealer might have some ordered, but they will be the same design. I had the sunshade binding issue and a rattle. As I stated before the rattle was being caused by the sunshade being broken away from the roof. The connector that comes out of the roof was broken off and they had to replace the entire roof and the sunshade.
I do not feel that the problem with the roof was a design flaw, it was an installation problem. Someone at the factory just over torqued the sunshade screw into the roof and broke it off.
