Fuse 15, take a look.
While you are there, take a look at all of the fuses.

I'd just ask why would you plug a radio or CD into a CD radio head unit? iPod, MP3, satelite radio I get... buy yes, don't tell them you plugged in an ancient radio into it.

I tried plugging an ifhone in the Aux jack and selecting Aux. I can't get it to work. The Ifone works just fine with earphones. I guess it's back to the dealer....

ps Anybody else with this problem?

Please, check this thread. Despite it's "nano" title, it covers the iPhone too.

My iPod (mini 2nd Generation - yes its OLD) works perfectly as does my XM radio. I plan on replacing the whole setup with this Alpine IDA-X001 Digital media receiver at Crutchfield.com and an XM tuner. But that is a ways off... still to core subject of the thread, no issues with the AUX input.

I would doubt that a high output level on the aux input jack would cause any problems with the CAR's electrical system, assuming one didn't plug in a welder or some such.... ;-) The RADIO system might have issues with high input but I'm not seeing how that would effect the CAR unless it was so high a level that it "bled" through to the wiring harness or terminal connections.

I'm thinkin that the radio device was emitting frequency discharges that were picked up by the wiring harness of the CAR. This made sumthin belch some garbage in the data stream and it shut itself down. Just removing primary power at the battery may not clear a condition code in the computer systems, and might very well need a tweak from a technician.

just a thunk

Call up your dealer and maybe they can talk ya through a fix.

I'm not a mechanic, and can PROVE it....

I vote for the coincidence theory as well...especially since the smart's radio is still working.
Afterall, it's just a portable radio and the earplug output no less. It didn't appear to happen when the portable radio was initially turned on, but when "fooling around with the radio controls" - I'm assuming from the initial post that the portable radio was plugged in, turned on....and nothing happened up until that point?

I am not positive of the order of events. One thing that I didn't mention and was very strange was that I realized that something was dreadfully wrong when the headlights started blinking on and off.

The smart truck is on its way. I'll keep you all informed of what happens.

I want to thank all of you that have responded. It is nice to know that even when you screw up, there are people that will take the time to respond with helpful ideas.

And I do agree with the concept of being honest about what happened.
