Batteries.

Strange problems with 09s throwing codes.

Last poster's dealer found a bad battery as the cause. I remember last winter some of the early 0-8 Canadian Smarts had battery problems.

Could it be they are freezing the batteries during shipping, then just recharging those that will still take a charge, and just shipping them off to the dealers?

A common issue with automotive batteries is that sometimes the battery may function properly as a devise to start your car but may not work properly as a electrical-filter. The battery is not just a power storage device, it is just as importantly, is a filter. The battery filters all the noise from the alternator and other electronic and electrical devices in the car. When the battery fails to act as a proper filter all sorts of weird things can happen including strange codes being set, devices not working porperly all the time, and etc.

Well, why don't you just grab a pack of rechargable AA batteries and reinstall them?

Astute observation on the filter effect of car batteries. As our cars become more loaded with electronics this has become very important.

The Smart car is a real RFI box. My hearing aid just sings away as soon as the key is turned on. Any further loss of filtering is bound to effect the onboard electronics. A2Jack.
