Done?

To round this out and maybe let it go, (this robbed from my other posting) "in backtracking through my correspondence concerning the benchmarking of the OEM Mitsu and the (Purolator) L/PL14612s, it was done by Purolator Filters NA LLC Product Engineering under the original ǽgis of Robert Bosch LLC."

Rajan, the senior product engineer for the project has a foot in each camp. I can only presume that his analysis and recommendation went both ways because both Purolator's and Bosch's inclusions on their respective application guides happened close to each other. The 14612s and the 3300 have similar external dimensions.

I bought three.
You're certainly welcome to disregard my posts if you have no interest in the on-sale 3300 filter.

Same here, I just bought three. People in here act like the smart car is some kind of special gift from god. It's a regular old 3 cylinder Mitsubishi engine. Nothing more.

I did the same thing at an Autozone location and the 3300 was about 1" longer.

OLDSMART,
Since you cut two OEM Tokyo Roki/Mitsu 1230A040s and two Tokyo Roki/Yamaha 5DM-13440-00s and found that they are absolutely identical, inside and out, even the manufacturing tool marks, WHY NOT do the same with a Bosch 3300 and reveil your findings?

I'm using the M1-108 based on the testing. Yes, it's "just a mitsu", but heck, your sweetheart is "just a girl" but you probably want the best for her! Just because a filter has the right physical dimensions, and the manufacturer says it will work, and it is cheap, does not mean it is the best for your car. A filter is far more than a can with paper in it as Old Smart points out.

Do the math, if a better filter costs twice as much, ($3 more), and you change your oil every 10K, at 100,000 miles you'd have paid $30 more. Ouch? I've heard people on this site that have paid more than twice that ($74) just to have an oil changed. I expect to drive my car 10 - 15K per year, my budget will permit $3 to $4 per year for a filter that is tested to exceed OEM spec.

What would I compare the 3300 to?
