Brake Pads

Did a search but coudn't turn anything up.

I know I'm up there in mileage(22,000), has anyone had to do a brake job yet? For that matter can we get pads from anywhere other than the dealership? I'm a larger than average fella and I have a feeling the pads a wearing alittle quicker than normal. I've got a grinding sound that is audible over the normal sound of the car at low RPM... Thinking it's the tell tale sign that the pads are starting to go.

here is a link to Summit Racing who sells EBC Brake parts.

EBC Brakes DP21287 - - summitracing.com

even though it says "ROTORS" it is brake pads. They are less dust than the originals too.

if you want to get new rotors you can get them as well,

These are dimpled and slotted:

EBC Brakes GD923 - - summitracing.com

I was actually wondering the same thing. My car is still very new, but I do alot of my own work when it comes to maitenence. I live about 10 minutes away from the dealer, so getting the stuff from them isn't bad except for the price hike.

I can't wait to try a set of Bendix on the smart.

I saw one SMART with the dimple/slot rotors, it looked good.
I have heard that under super hard use they can crack, that is why they don't drill all the way through, just dimple.

I went to the dealer today and we pulled off the wheels just to make sure all was well for the trip next week. The brake pads looked almost new even after 22,000 miles and the rotos were smooth... should be able to get atleast 40,000 miles on a set of pads... tires were in good shape too.

Just a heads up.

I was thinking you shouldn't be wearing that much, glad you're not. I looked at mine the other day and they look like new still. That's mainly a product of not using my brakes much = hypermiling technique, glide to stops if I can without impeding traffic.

What exhaust do you have?

- I've found the exhaust fixed the brake pad problem.
