Brake rotor ?

I have one of the front rotors getting a groove in it. it is about 1/2 inch in from the outer edge. What could be causing this and can it be stopped? Like a rock or something.

..yes Digger..a rock can cause that but the noise level when using the brakes will be a clue of something is not right...have you had your brake pads checked?...I know you did the wheels not long ago...it would have been the perfect time...and with only 3 lug nuts it should take no time to go in there and take a look...
..a stock pad/pug could also create an uneven wear pattern...

jetfuel...hitting the brakes..

There is no noise from it at all, the braking is smooth. Could be a hard chunk in the pad. I just never saw a "V" type groove with the rest perfectly smooth. I have seen ridges before though. I'll just have to keep an eye on it. If it gets bad I might have to upgrade to ceramic pads and new rotors later on.
