Break in period recommendations

I hate to litter the forum with this, but I've searched for "break in period recommendations" and I can't find anything. I remember reading a very good thread on proper break in technique for the engine, brakes etc and I can't find it anywhere. Can someone help? Thanks, Joel

Owners Manual, Page 168:

The first 1000 miles (1500 km)

In the Operation section you will find detailed
information on operating, maintaining and
caring for your vehicle.

The more cautiously you treat your vehicle
during the breakin period, the more satisfied
you will be with its performance later on.

• Drive your vehicle during the first
1000 miles (1500 km) at varying but
moderate vehicle and engine speeds.
• During this period, avoid heavy loads (full
throttle driving) and excessive engine
speeds (no more than 2/3 of maximum rpm in
each gear).
• Shift gears in a timely manner.
• Do not attempt to slow the vehicle down by
shifting to a lower gear.
• Avoid accelerating by kickdown.

After 1000 miles (1500 km), you may gradually
increase vehicle and engine speeds to the
permissible maximum

All of the above instructions also apply when
driving the first 1000 miles (1500 km) after
the engine has been replaced.

i Always obey applicable speed limits.

Aka, drive like a really paranoid person.
Resist the temptation to beat people off the line... they have it in for you.

Drive it hard with lots of acceleration and deceleration. Exact opposite of the Manual's list above. ;)

You may be remembering Fredvon4's break in recommendations that was in a post some time ago. He was pretty well spoken on this subject.

Jeez, I drove mine home 70 miles on I-70 at about 75 mph........... guess it's toast. Then again, that was 17 months ago, and it's getting a consistent 40 mpg in the city........ maybe just lightly toasted.

Many different thoughts on this process. I use a combination of Fred's break in and this one Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power I've done this on ALL my bikes
