Burning smell when new?

I drove my smart home from the dealer today and after about 5 minutes there was an awful burning smell. Not clutch, but like cosmoline or a new exhaust burn-off. It was so strong that my son could smell it following me on the highway in our Mini.

Anyone else experience this when their car was new?

I had it too and emailed smart asking about it on Jan 27th., I finally received a phone call on April 10th - good thing it wasn't something burning. I think it is the oil films from assembly and machining, it left in a day or two.

It lasted a few weeks with mine. Especially strong in the rear. Three months later, its gone.

Thanks for the good news. Mine seems to be almost gone with only a couple dozen miles. Now to have the DOA air conditioning fixed.
