Cabrio tailgate not unlocking

Forgive me if this is a stupid question. My wife and I have noticed that our tailgate doesn't want to open if we imediantly exit the car and try to open the tailgate. Usually we have to stand there for a couple of minutes and/or hit the unlock button on the key before it will unlatch. Is there a time delay to accessing it or is something amiss?

I don't have my smart yet, but I have read this is a quirky part of the smart.

I was thinking to use the button on the dash (the central lock button) I understand if you hold it it will pop the tailgate, then you just use the handle to open it. It will also help you save battery life in your fob.

Maybe someone can chime in and give you more info....

We hit the unlock button twice and it is working find. I have read a thread were a car had its micro switch replaced on the tailgate.

No cabrio, but I've had to re-lock and then unlock my coupe to get it open.

I have a cabrio and I think what you are describing is normal, or at least I assume it is. the trunk locks when the doors lock as you start driving. When you exit, it doesn't unlock the car, only the door you are opening. I just hit the unlock on the dash when I exit (when I remember) or the unlock on the key.

My cab and the demo cab @ Milwaukee Smart Center both had a problem with the micro switch Eric the service guy did thiers firstThen mine only took him a few minutes to fix. smart tech knows about it its just a matter of adjustment.
