Took delivery last night, and it a couple of times inadvertently skipped a gear on my way home. There's not enough torque there......................... What was the rationale for putting this engine in the car????

Lol is right. I'd take a 10% hit for some NVH refinement and a teeny bit more torque.

That may be a good idea, but i'm not sure how many people would go for that with gas mileage being compromised? I miss having an S2000 sometimes! Talk about power in a tiny engine.

Yeah, it seemed fine letting me keep it in the revs on my test drive (I really am not good at driving for best gas mileage, fun and oomph on tap comes first )

I chuckle when people are disappointed that a micro urban commuter car designed for fuel economy doesn't behave like a race car. :-) Seems to me if they wanted to go fast, they would get a Ferrari or a Vette, but then they might complain why can't I get 40+ mpg?

The transmission is a sequential box. You need to go 1,2,3,4,5 six for a 450 the same going down. Think motorcycle, The exception is 1st that gets selected every time you stop. In 5Th and want third pull the paddle (stick)2 times. Still taking it easy with lil Booger haven't been at red line yet, the car still makes me grin, and has no trouble keeping up with normal traffic.

What about Downshifting...?

When I come off the freeway in my del Sol, I rev the engine to match the RPM's speed in 4th, shifting from 5th to 4th, it's very smooth. I continue this sequence down to about 3rd gear. This saves wear & tear on the brakes.
Can you do this in the 451 or does it kill engine speed when it disengages the clutch?

If I'm not mistaken, that third pull will put you in second.
