With various mechanical/electronics problems with the smart being identified, some of which are show-stoppers (or semi-) on the road, I now have it in mind to put together a package of “Emergency Procedures” to carry in the car. My thoughts are for flash cards that are titled with the evident problem, and continue with the fix. This, for the benefit of the driver or any helpful Samaritan. I envision 5” x 8” laminated cards carried in a durable envelope and appropriately labeled (sort of like Repair-Five’s casualty control cards). The text will be in a large, clear font that can be read in low light (e.g. ARIAL 20pt). The lamination will provide durability and defense against rain, sweat, tears, and/or greasy fingers.
The initial procedures will include the “locked shifter;” the “three bars;” the “don’t know where I am” transmission confusion; now, the “exclamation point,” et al. There may be more in time, but we hope not.
I printed out the forum responses on most of those subjects (and Evolution's fuse chart) and added them to my owner's manual in case of future need. The lamination and large type sounds like a nice improvement.
Whoa!, whoa! there cowboys- I am not marketing anything; I am just informing as to what I am thinking about to add to my/our own onboard resources. Though it was intended to be "our" second car, it is fast becomming "her" car, with all that goes with that.
oh, come on Old Smart - we all want your quick reference cards! I'm thinking that since you're going to type them anyway, you could file share.... please?

Sounds like a good idea. Here's an idea for how to organize/store the cards.
A training center that I go to for one of the planes I fly gives us "flashcards" to study, with emergency procedures and basic aircraft info. They just have a hole in the upper left corner and are held together with a big ring. This way you just flip through them and nothing gets lost. And you can toss the whole package in the glovebox.

Well, maybe, in time. But right now I am fretting over the landscaper having disturbed my cable connection (not his fault), and the numb cable guy cutting my phone cable by working within his own vacuum.
