chattering noise

i have about 250 miles on my 451 and ive started to notice a chattering noise when accelerating, kinda sounds like clutch chatter, doesn't sound like its from the engine. my Z does the same but only at very slow speeds accelerating on an incline. anyone experience the same?

Chattering Noise

Have about 450 miles on my Smartie, no noise on acceleration, but engine does seem to chatter somewhat at idle. Not sure if normal or not. Do others engines seem somewhat noisy at idle?

It could be that mysterious "rattle" sound that many of us have experienced. See other threads. No solution yet to my knowledge.

Karl, get off my a$$! Since when is a rattle normal for any car? It would also be nice if you would break open your piggy bank and support this forum with a paid membership.

I, and others, have experienced a rattling noise and have mentioned it on other threads. Oh, wait I forgot, your car is PERFECT.

Is this the same noise?

I have my 451 up on the hoist attempting to locate the intermittent rattling noise. The problem is, or course, getting it to do it while I have the stethoscope out.

If I am hearing the same noise that is being talked about here, it occurs at idle, with or without the transmission in gear. It starts out rapid and slows to fade out, taking about 5 to 10 seconds. It is a more solid sound than a “tick”, like would come from a fuel injector or fuel pump.

Is this what everyone is talking about? I will post more if I come up with an answer. I don’t believe it to be a fault, just a characteristic of the car. Something that can be quieted by insulation etc.

My motor makes all kinds of indiosycratic little noises when I forget to turn up the radio.

Actually, there WAS one noise that was kind of freaking me out. Every time I stopped I heard "WIRRR WIrrr Wirr Wir wir...". I stopped at a light... "WIRRR WIrrr Wirr Wir wir...".

My driveway... "WIRRR WIrrr Wirr Wir wir...".

I was about to call the dealership but suddely I realized that my little LED flashligt was just rolling back and forth in the u-shaped bottom of the glove compartment.

I, and others, have described it as sounding as if a heat shield was loose. Revving the engine at standstill does not cause it to happen. It happens when traveling over 40mph, particularly in crosswinds. Some say it could be the emergency brake cable.
