It was the common P0410 Fault Secondary Air System Valve problem as you and many other had. Everything went great, they flat bedded it to Knoxville replaced the valve and flat bedded it to my sister's house in Nashvillewhile I was I was at the beach. So all went well, Thanks for asking!

Glad it's taken care of. Mine's running like a fine Swiss (S)watch. No other problems since the defective valve was replaced.
Update: took the car in Friday afternoon, and they said to keep it, as they wouldn't be able to do anything until Monday anyway. Took it in this morning (Tues) and they were very helpful. I got a shuttle ride in an E Class home, and was told they'd call me.
At the end of the day, I got called and went over there. The said it was the secondary air valve (?) that needed to be replaced, but the part was on order. They would have to keep the car until noon tomorrow. He also noted that he'd replaced a lot of those valves.
Though they were very helpful and courteous, I was a bit disappointed to find that I had to pay for a rental. In fact, even the guy at the Enterprise desk was suprised at this. If you buy a car and it is defective, which prevents you from getting to work, shouldn't the manufacturer that made the defective car enable you to get what you paid for (transport to work) until they fix the car? I guess I didn't read carefully enough into the small print. Anyways, that's not the sort of treatment one would expect from a Mercedes Benz AG company. VW always lent me a car during warrenty issues. Bummed!
I'm sad to say that my check engine light came on and the car began to shake after owning the car for only a few days. (car purchased on Monday and then broken on Wednesday @ about 250 miles) The dealerships and 1-800 Smart have been helpful but I don't understand what is wrong with my new car.
The car was towed to the dealership in Devon PA. They informed me that one cylinder was misfiring and they replaced a coil and I believe a spark plug. (I didn't know about the codes and didn't think to ask for them) This problem was fixed fairly quickly and off I went to the dealership to pick up my car.
Unfortunately, as I was driving home with the car, the same problem happened again. The car was shaking (less severe then before) and could barely get into gear. I called the dealership and it was suggested (along with bringing the car back) that I put more fuel in the car. I hadn't put fuel in since buying it on Monday and I had two bars left. When I started the car up again, the shaking was gone. I fueled up, but not all the way, and then was on the move again. Then, the car started shaking again (check engine light back on). At this point I could barely go 35 mph. I pulled over and turned the car off. When I turned the car back on the shaking was gone. I drove it back to the dealership. Of course, there were no problems the whole drive back to the dealership.
Any thoughts? Any one else having similar problems?
I was driving our Smart Car today and noticed the check engine light popped on. I got out the manual, called the number, and after 20 minutes of alternate talking and being put on hold, was told that the car needed to be towed to the service center. This is 200 miles away. Smart Car then put me on the phone on a conference call with a towing company that is coming tonight to take the car to Knoxville, TN. I am north of Nashville, TN.
Things happen, so I didn't think too much of it. The car has 2014 miles on it and we really love it. I also have a Lexus GX470, a 2007 Lingenfelter modified Corvette (my toy), and a bunch of other varied cars, trucks, and a motorcycle (six college aged kids). We love the Smart Car and my wife drives it everywhere now.
The only hassle will be driving 200 miles to go pick the car up. I will make it a weekend trip but we will probably be without the car for several weeks.
Thanks for the forums and posts, they are very helpful. I hope we get a local dealership soon.
