Coasting a Problem?

Searched but couldn't find info on this....When coasting, say through a parking lot, the car starts to "buck" when not using pressure on gas pedal. I have been driving in automatic. Am I doing something wrong? It is a little disconcerting and I would appreciate any advice.

because it's not an auto tranny, it doesn't really coast in that situation. it's in first gear and the bucking is because the RPM's are getting too low... a slight application of the brake should cause it to engage the clutch.

Thank you rawlucA. Will try that next time it happens. Have been doing just the opposite, using gas and moving when I really didn't want to. Thanks again. Glad to hear there is really nothing wrong.

Thank you, rawlusA(etc) for a logical solution to one of our cars few annoying habits: bucking at crawl speed.
As your Smart's clutch beds in (really, as it wears a bit), you will find that the shifting in Automatic mode is much smoother and quicker in manual mode.

this makes sense as when i took my test drive, i preferred to use the 'manual mode' and shift with the paddles on the demo. it had already been 'broken in' with about 3,000 mikes on it and was much easier to shift and handle for me in 'manual mode' than the 'automated mode'.

i just can't wait to get my OWN and break it in MY WAY!!!

I have driven several different cars and have noticed that the degree to which they buck varies from car to car. My car tends to buck. I have driven others that seem to be much smoother. I mentioned this to the mechanic at the dealer and he said that there is nothing that can be adjusted. He said he can fix if it doesn't shift but can't do anything to make the bucking(I called it chugging) smoother.

As a group, we should make some more inquiries to see if there is anything that can be done. The bucking feels like it's the clutch chattering on engagement. The cars that don't buck seem to have smoother clutch engagement. IMO
