We might want to beware...Washers are not necessarially equal here. Hardened copper and copper aloy washers may or may not have the propeties necessary to do the job. I know that hard drawn copper pipe is prone to heat stress and cracking where soft drawn copper is not. Before trusting your engine's well being to an insignificant item as a sealing crush washer from Acme Hardware that you paid 75 cents for instead of the dealer crush washer at $3.50 think if it is worth the $2.75 of added cost.

The 0.50c to 0.85c selection at Carcraft, Autozone, and other common car part places are the proper item and designed as sealing washers.... most of the time they carry the item for large truck disk brake Banjo bolts on the high pressure line... they will certainly hold up well in a relatively low pressure drain plug use

The $3.50 or higher at smart part counter are the same item with over 200% profit built in for someone....wink

Nothing wrong with having a "Official smart approved" crush washer... just a waste of money...

IMO

I paid like $2+ for mine at the dealer. With the Mitzu filter it was $15 total.

TG6607 is on my smart, And similar Fram filters are on my other four cars, and one truck. Never had a problem. I'm sure the Mitsu/smart filter is good, but I've never subscribed to the whole "dealer part" thing. After all, all oil filters are effectively aftermarket.

Isn't the rubberized part the top? Just an observation

I gotta think that if someone uses their own washer and it's not the right one for the job that the first thing noticed would be drip spots on the garage floor, long before any engine damage would occur (as more than a quart would need to be lost).

My thought was that with temperature changes there would be issues but I guess if you were on an extended trip, say 300 or so miles, you might notice the oil on the rear window before any damage occurs to the engine. Like fredvon4 stated in his post, you can find suitable inexpensive alternatives if you look.
