I want to take it to my smart center because I want to do everything I can to get these service guys familiar with this car.
Also, by the time I get to the 10K service in about a month the upgrade should be available for the 08's to shift more like an 09. I can't do that myself.
Then their is the issue with the battery. If they are offering a replacement im not going to try and save a few bucks and wind up with a bad battery. If I'm making the trip to the dealer, im going to make it worth it. Heck, they quoted me under $20 to also reverse the front tires on the rims to help extend the life of those tires. That could save me quite a few bucks down the road.
What's the issue with the battery?

Their was a bad batch of 08 batteries.

Lots of folks have had them die within the first year. No battery should die within a year.
Any "updates", recalls, or TSB's? - Page 5 - Smart Car of America Forums

If my car needs a battery, I'll buy one. It'd be a minimum six hours to get to the dealer, get it done and get back. Too much trouble. Way too much.

Don't know for sure at SCI, but I heard it was around $100.00 (I'll find out exactly how much in a couple weeks at our "Tech Talk" on March 7th). That seems fair, considering that a 'normal' 3K mile oil and filter change on my Jeep would run about $30 or more. Looks like it all averages out to me.

But the difference in prices could be, in part, the difference in Labor Rates in not only different areas, but different dealerships. Ownership sets the Labor Rates, NOT smartUSA. You can't pay a tech in Los Angeles the same wages as one in Bumfut Egypt, Kansas. It's call a difference in 'cost of living'.

For instance, the Walmart that's closest to me is cheaper on most items than the one that's close to where I work, about 25 miles away. Walmart is Walmart, but their pricing isn't always the same.

Also, make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Some smart centers 'may' be doing more than others. Check your maintenance manual and ask how much for 'those services only' at 10K miles.

SmartiePrincess posted this question for me yesterday. When I picked my Charley after they were done the price had dropped from the quoted $198 to $171. A small drop but helpful. It's my mission to find an independent dealer before the 20k service comes due. These prices are absurd.

SmartCenter San Jose charges $265

I am at the 1 year point and it is time for its first service.
SmartCenter San Jose charges $265.

They said that I should be getting a letter in a couple of weeks about the shifter upgrade TSB and I can have that done at the time of the maintenance. So I am going to wait and have both done this time but I will find someplace else to do the 2 year service.

I called both San Diego and Chandler yesterday trying to decide where to take mine (I need a warranty repair on one of my seats too) - San Diego quoted me $110, and Chandler $145. - sheureka
