Wow, 3 months! I too got a rock crack the second day. I immediately used a windshield repair kit from Pep Boys as the crack was only about 1/2 inch long, and I've had good success with these repairs on other cars. So far (2 weeks) the crack hasn't grown, but if it takes months to get a new windshield maybe i should order one now?

Windshields
I had to have my windshield replaced after getting a rock hit first day of ownership.
Windshield took two weeks to come and had it fitted by an independent guy as dealer wanted far too much money. You will need a new rain sensor if one is fitted as you cannot get a replacement gel pack for the sensor (Sensor approx $200)

It is my understanding that there are two references for the windshield, one being specific to the rain sensor equipped cars. I was quoted approx. $700 by the windshield specialist, but now Penske will pay about 1/2 of it. I do hope they ordered the right windshield!
About two hours after my post above, I got a call from the windshield company that my windshield is here. They have to keep the car for 24 hours to make sure all is cured right.

Got a quote from a dealer of about $577 + tax for parts and labor, which I don't think is half bad.
Safelite is cheeper on labor, but wants $600 for the windshield...
I have a $500 deductible with the insurance company I may not submit it if it's under $600. I've never had to submit anything to my insurance company, so I don't know if it would effect my premiums. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately the bird died on impact and was run over by the car in the lane next to me.

Glass replacement has never had an effect on my premiums. I have a $50 deductible for comprehensive. Check with your insurance company. For me the difference between a $50 deductible and a $500 deductible was about $48 a year.
