creep mode and clutch

Complete noob here. Hope this wasn't beat to death allready. 1) Whats the difference(if any) between 450 and 451 creep mode. 2) When sitting in drive with foot on brake is the clutch in or does it go to neutral? Thanks .

The 450 does not have the creep (what's the opposite of feature ?). I remember when Studebaker had the anti-creep, I really liked it.

as for the clutch, I remember reading in the tech thing about the clutch is released a second or two after a complete stop and foot on the brake.

Creep mode is something smart added for the American market only, on the 451, to make it feel more like an auto, as that is what you guys are used to.
Everywhere else the car completely engages the clutch when stood still in gear, it is like sitting with your foot all the way down on the clutch as in a manual car.
This has come up before on here, and I thought when I read it the last time that the creep mode is significantly going to reduce the life of the clutch as it is always going to be dragging to give that creep function.

Just for info, as mentioned elsewhere the 09s and the 08s with the 2.0 upgrade are a lot less "creepy." Also, I believe with the brakes fully applied the creep mode is not engaged so there is no clutch wear at a full stop. If you release the brakes slightly, as the car creeps forward there has to be some clutch wear but IMHO no more than you'd get with a manual tranny car slipping the clutch yourself. Not to worry.

Thanks, I'm a little surprised to hear the 450 had no creep mode. How is parking it?

the 451, does'nt have creep mode either, only in America, and as the 450 did'nt make it to the States, none of them has creep mode.
The European smarts also have turbos depending on the model, why you guys hav'nt got them, I don't know, might be the stringent emmisions you have over there, the turbo does make the car run rich, the exhaust is always jet black on the inside, but who cares as the added turbo makes the engine a little screamer

ps you asked about parking, there is no issues with parking, if you have never had creep mode you don't miss it, I would think it would be harder to park with creep, but it is what you get used to I suppose

I don't think smart intended creep "mode" as a feature. I thought it was a side effect of hill assist.

Creep mode is when you let off your brake and the car "creeps" forward. Not typical of manuals.
