display confusion

about a week ago, early in the morning, i moved my car to a parking spot. it was 30 degrees and later in the afternoon i wanted to place it back in my garage, by this time is was in the 60s. thats was the only difference to me, tempeature. when i tried to removed the car, i physically shifted from parked to reversed, but the display on the dash board showed, neutral, i placed it back in parked and displayed showed parked, i shifted in reversed again and display showed neutral again, it did this like 3 times, so i then decided to place in drive and the displayed showed neutral, so i turned the car off, then on and slowly shifted in reversed and the display finally showed R, what a relief. everything else when as nornmal and this never happen again. what a relief, my cousin kept asking me if i forgot how to shift, he didn't understand what was happen, neither i.

And when it happened, I initially was miffed but realized the sometimes quirkiness of the electronics on this car can mislead you. When that happens again, simply shift to P, turn off the car....wait a few seconds....the turn the key to on (not start)shift from P thru to D and back to P slowly and then start the car. The shift/trans can get confused and using that procedure will un-confuse it...so to speak.....
