Antifreeze? Our smart center technician in a recent meeting with owners, told us the smart was AIR COOLED.

But then he corrected himself when someone pointed to the RADIATOR!

Scares ME.

Permanent anti-freeze has gotten a bad rap. I have had it in my Expedition since new and with 10 years, 250,000 miles, on the truck it still does the job**

Use what the manufacturer says unless there is a product that exceeds the recomendation or if your operating conditions requre a change.

** coolant is changed every 100,000 miles in accordance with the manufacturers recomendations.

OK...first off ...oil is the number one coolant of the engine, it absorbs the heat created from the friction of the rotating group...
...second...water is the best coolant, period.
...the use of any other product is due to the need to prevent corrosion some lubricity to the pump and keep the solution from freezing
Add premix coolant solution only...to the tune of 50% and not to exceed 55%
..50% solution will be good to -37*C.
..now with that said I found very confusing that the owners manual states "Adding water and MB325.0 anticorrosion/antifreeze separately from each other, could cause engine damage not covered by the smart Limited Warranty"...page 309 with one of this (!)...then on the same page it states "If the level is low, water and MB325.0 Anticorrosion/Antifreeze should be used to bring it up to proper level, please make sure the mixture is in accordance with the label instructions"
which brings me to this statement.....what tha phu#&.....
