Doors seem loose!

Hello all,

My smartie has been developing some small rattles and noises since I got it, which is not surprising given the bad roads I have to drive on. However what is making me a little nervous is my doors, especially my driver's side door, rattles on the latch when I hit bumps. When I go off camber on a large bump, like a railroad track at an angle to the road.. big time latch noise, like the doors are about to fly open!

Anyone else getting this, and is there a way to tighten the doors so they latch more securely?

I just keep remembering the crash test where the door flies open after the crash, I wonder if that's the same issue.

Thanks

--Todd

Grease the latch area with a Q-tip and you will have silence

Same here: it sounds as if the doors are brushing against the seals and squeak while driving on major bumps. But I do attribute this to the cold winter weather. Any suggestion as to rubber lubricant?

I have the same problem - grease won't cure that 1/8-1/4 of an inch that I can jiggle the door when I push on it from the outside or pull from the inside. An adjustment is in my future I think.....

Adjusting the latch is pretty straightforward. If you look at it closely (the part on the car, not on the door), you'll notice there are a series of lines along each edge of the latch, as well as individual indicator lines on the Tridion. To adjust, you just loosen the screws, move the latch in the direction it has to go, then tighten the screws again. The lines will help you keep track of how much you've moved it and in which direction.

What about the plastic pin? I have a pin that keeps it from going in any direction. I have actually adjusted my driver's door once already and the pin had to be removed to moved the latch in any direction.

Am I missing something?

I actually just talked to the service manager about this (just the driver side on mine). He said it's a quick easy fix, and I'll be getting it done on Friday. I can let you know what he does (I live 10min from my smart dealer so I see no reason to do anything myself).

Are you talking about the latch in the door, or the metal latch/striker attached to the Tridion? The latter is what is adjustable.

Tridion.......the one with the marks for adjusting. There is a plastic "alignment?" pin in a hole.
