Instructions for the Dealer to retrofit DRL's is readily available. Firstly it is spelled out real nicely in smart's Tech Tip # 11 with step by step instructions for the activation. These tips are posted on the Dealer Portal (I'm writing this so people who want DRL can talk the language that can help a smart center that is unfamiliar with the process). The Dealer is charged a fee from smart USA for each TAN code that is issued per VIN and the code is unique each time. The DRL option (K06) is possible for all smart without rain/light sensor (V54) or the 2008 Comfort Package (P52). Hope this helps.

Do I conclude then that if I have the rain/light sensor, DRL is no longer an option? Except of course the possibility of fooling the sensor with black tape. I hope I followed the info of this post correctly, if not I am the fool.

OK, well first, I had a 10K service I wanted them to do and they were much nicer than Devon was. It was maybe another half hour but worth it. Fancy shmancy customer waiting area.

So they called today and told me they can do the code the next time I come in. For $125!!!!! I don't think so....

smartdigger, which one do you have from WebElectric. I see it is only $40 so I think I would rather go that route.

Thanks.

Whoa smartdigger, those only light the turn signals. That's nice but DRL are usually considered to be the low beams at 40% (69% reduction). At least, that is how I understand it works.

I have the DRL-1 Universal Daytime Running Lights Module.

Most of your amber ( on gmc ) that I see use regulare 1157 bulbs like we have in our front blinkers.

they work well and I have noticed a muck smaller amount of people pulling out infront of me.

It's a $50 option when you configure; shouldn't cost any more than that.

It costs the smart center more than $50 for the code, but not much. $125 is a bit extreme for pushing some buttons on a lap top. We've had a handful of smarts in here that the DRL was inop and needed activation. Key in hand, turn headlights on and pull back on the high beam flasher while simultaneously pressing the lock button on the remote all for maybe 5 or 10 seconds. Then turn on the car and see if they're working. The vehicle must have come with the option already for this to work.

I would warn of the potential problems of installing aftermarket electronics on the smart. Our Regional Rep's main job lately has been fading heat with customers who have altered their smart with aftermarket "goodies" only to see it fry something down the line. Not to mention the technicians are trying to figure out systems that are already complicated enough that have been modified with stuff with unknown effects. Just an observation here and reporting the issues in the field from the field.

Oh so by that then a ScanGauge II is a bad thing to use by that logic. I have nothing against you but it always seems dealers want to find a scape goat when something happens (not saying you specifically at all). It may be just me that has bad experiences with other dealers (not smart). The sam frying on jimvw57 car could have been blamed on his ScanGuage II but it wasn't and they replaced his car (big ++++ there). I don't know what modifications you're talking about that are causing issues you speak of that your rep is having issue about.
