DRL modules

There's been some discussion about the USA smarts not having DRLs as the Canadian models do. So, until we hear more about a factory fix, here are three sources for aftermarket DRL modules:

http://www.daytime-running-lights.co...prodid=1070031

http://www.autobarn.net/des20013.html

http://www.soundoffsignal.com/electronic/drl_el.htm

Feel free to add more when you find them.

Hold off ordering anything yet. It is very likely that the DRLs can be activated by a simple dealer programming of the existing computer.

"So, until we hear more about a factory fix..."

Not an invitation to order, as they say at smart usa.

I wrote smart usa about three weeks ago asking abut drl's and if they required a module or if they could be set by the dealer. I got no response so I called and was told that my question had been forwarded as no on knew the answer. They indicated that when they got an answer they would let me know. So I guess I'll find out when I take delivery

This guy has modules for 450s, roadsters, for4s and 451s that are physically different... I am hoping the Euro 451s need this module and us North American Market owners will not...

It would be good if there was some magic DRL enable switch or computer setting .. It seems the Canadian Smart we have pictures of has USA DoT lights and amber markers so I hope our Smarts should also have DRL enable capability already built in...

But if not, 69 euros and shipping costs later this guy can source the module

Just get the yellow 451 and they'll see you coming ;)

I have the opposite problem as in Canada they don't have the auto on lights so I'm going to have to head to Boston to get them to install that on my forfiveone.

It shouldn't be hard to get the American cars to have the DRL as the smart doesn't actually have DRL's all they do is have the headlights fully on all the time, guess it saved them from trying to install a 3rd light into the housing.

Actually realised you can get DRL for about 5 cents for the US cars, all you need is a piece of duck tap and then you put that piece of duck tap over the auto on light senor.

This will cause the car to always think you are driving at night and it will turn on your headlights for you

While it will turn on the tail lights also, guess that's even safer and the smart allows you to adjust the interior gauge brightness, ironically the daytime brightness in my smart is more annoying then the brightness I've set for night driving.

I don't believe all the USA cars have the auto on light; if we will get them, great! Thanks.
