Electric Power Steering Question

Does anyone know if the EPS has Cross-wind compensation? VW has it is their Jetta and Rabbit. It's great when driving in heavy wind. Cannot find any info on this. Does anyone have a link to find out about the Technology layer in the smart vehicle? The SMART USA website is not very helpful.

Thanks!

I know of no such function of the ESP in the smart. After 6000+ miles, I feel it is un- necessary. Although the wind does get your attention!

I'm pretty sure it does not. I do know for a fact that my two arms have cross-wind compensation.

Cross-winds make it a two-hand drive, but I've never been actually threatened by a wind strong enough. Texas pre-hurricane, Alabama coast pre- and post-hurricane. 40mph winds gusting to 50mph... It's just nature giving the car a slap on the back. My EPS is probably quite helpful in improving response time but I haven't tried one without EPS.

You won't need anything but a steady grip. I doubt you'll even move more than a couple inches within the lane.

Judging from previous responses, I'd think there is either something wrong with my car, or with me. Or, maybe a second impression would change my opinion ...
On my trip home after taking delivery, I bordered a large thunderstorm complex for 30 or 40 miles and experienced some blustery side winds. It was a white knuckle experience for me at Interstate Hwy speeds.
It is a fairly light, high profile vehicle. So, it is not surprising it is not a champ with regard to strong cross winds. IMO, it would be an improvement for the ESP to address cross winds. But I see no indication that it does. 2¢

Could someone explain to me how Cross Wind Compensation would work? How would it know how much to compensate!

TIA, Harold
