emptying vs aspirating.

I've seen ads for a "Mityvac oil vacuum" to remove engine oil by aspiration instead of emptying it by the usual method. Good idea? Bad idea?

Rather than let it drain,

Or are you talking about the older 450 four two?

I was wondering if this would work better than trying to find something to elevate the vehicle, crawl underneath, wrench the overtorqued drain bolt off, and let the oil splatter in the pan. I understand I would still have to deal with the oil filter replacement. This is on an 09 Cabrio.

You don't have to raise the vehicle to change the oil, getting the drain plug is not difficult with the proper wrench, I don't splatter any oil when I changemine and I just remove the filter first into the drain pan. I lay on the driveway and change the oil and filter and I am a big guy.

I think you might have the wrong end of the stick here, the old 450 and the roadster have to have the oil sucked out as they have no drain plug, the new 451 does have a drain plug, so no need for fancy gizmos.

Great Video!!!! A small tip--If you remove the dipstick and the oil fill cap, the oil will drain faster. Warm oil also drains faster. But, Slower draining oil does'nt splatter and cold oil doesn't burn your fingers, maybe I'll try it your way. Thanks!! Cheerz, Smart Chip
