Yes, the peg is loose and wiggles! The "art" of getting it to latch is to align the peg and its hole in the engine opening's frame. The foam holds the cover a little above its tight closed location. Align the peg with the whole, push on the cover and turn ever so lightly the peg clockwise only a quarter turn: it should grip.
And keep us (me) posted...

We had the same problem when we picked up our Smart.

There is a small aluminum clip that the latch catches onto. The clip can easily strip and needs to be replaced. You dealer can order the part. It only took 5 weeks for ours to come in...

I think the latch is the more trivial issue here.

The heat issue is what really bugs me. Despite the thick insulation, I can still feel some heat through the top of the carpet. If you have groceries, you will realize the contents are slightly heated up after a bit of driving.

The cover is hardly insulated except for that pathetic rubber edge trim. I am looking into adding more thermal insulation.

That or polyurethane foam.

So do you "feel" the heat in your smart trunk?

It would be nice if an aftermarket vendor(hint, hint) could come up with an all metal "peg". I`m always worried the plastic knob will break off on me one of these days!
