First oil change coming up...

No, not the 10K mile one...

Plan on either Mobil 1 0W 40 or 5W 30, whichever I can find cheapest; same with filter* - Mobil 1, K&N, Yamaha or Fram, whichever is cheapest. I'm going to try the shop down the street and give them the chance to learn the car (with a little help from me) and get any other business I can throw their way.

* and the Purolator Pure One

I wouldn't do a Fram at any price, but I would add a Purolator Pure One to the top of the list.

consider this a "phishing" thread

I will let you and xcrew229x argue that one. I know there is a lot of "anti-Fram" talk out there but they'd be out of business if their filters were junk, IMHO. Thanks for reminding me about the Pure One.

My understanding of the Fram filter "problem" is that it was in 1995, according to the small amount of research I did. I've used them for about 25 years, no problems that I'm aware of. I can tell ya that the stock smart filter was a good piece, but virtually identical in construction visually with the Fram TG6607, and the Fram box states it has a synthetic media inside. I don't plan on ever going 10K between changes, and that's the whole purpose behind the fleece deal with MB. For what it's worth....

Anyone use AmsOil in their Smart yet or consider using it?
They usually are a 25k change with a 12.5k filter change.

Oil change done!

Worth it for this:

Drove to the local CarX place, pulled in, got out and all the guys in the service bays were like statues, staring at the car with their mouths open. Couldn't have been more surprised if a flying saucer had landed!

Anyway, got it up on the lift and walked through it with a very nice guy who was willing to listen and learn the car. He's now the resident expert in Dayton, FWIW. Tried the 24mm socket I'd seen mentioned before - too big; finally found something that worked. Drained oil after pulling out the drain plug and explaining the screen on the end. Slapped on a new filter, tightened the drain plug, lowered the car, raised the engine cover, used a funnel to add ~3.0 qts of Mobil 1, fired it up, got a momentary oil light, that went out and then we shut down the engine. Topped up the oil another .5 qt, closed the engine cover and that was that.
