I think after the first oil change and getting that drain plug off the rest will be a LOT easier. That damn thing was torqued down like a *****!!!

Bad news is, I tightened mine nice and snug at 1100 miles, and at 6000 it was tight as the factory. Not sure why, took a breaker bar to loosen it as it did the first time.

I didn't have a problem the second oil change like I did the first when I had to break out the hulk hands. First oil change was at 2000 miles, second at 8000 miles and the third is coming up this week at 15,000 miles. I live on a dusty dirty road which is why I change so frequently above manufacturers recommendation. I don't use Mobil 1 - I use Amsoil. Wix filter.

I just did the first oil and filter change and found this to be the easiest oil/filter change on any vehicle, except a Suzuki SV650, that I've ever done. The filter and plug come off easily, were accessible by just lying on the ground without having to either jack up or raise the car on ramps. There was no muss, no fuss - used the Mitsu filter, and 3.3 litres Mobil 5W-40 ESP 'M' oil. It's really too bad that the OCI'S are so far apart with the job being so easy.

The only issue was to torque the drain plug - solved by using a long handle 'click' 50-250 LB FT torque wrench. The spec of 65 NM is just shy of 50 LB FT so this worked out just fine. Actually the same will be used to remove the plug next time making that task easier as well.

By the way, I've now had three vehicles that used filters made by Tokyo Roki. They make OEM filters for many Japanese engines, car and motorcycle. After taking them apart and comparing them to others, I wouldn't hesitate to use them whenever possible. If your dealer stocks the Mitsu filter then use it. If not, then get one that cross references, such as the Yamaha filter.

seconded. Neither drain plug nor filter were too tight; crush washer seemed perfectly reusable.

I changed at 3,000 and was glad of it. Oil did not 'look' like it needed changing, but I do not think waiting til 10k would be a good idea. I'll probably change again a 6k, then 10k and every 5k after. I'm using the Mobil synth 0w30.

Question for group:

I used the bosch 3300 filter and it seems to project a little lower than I recall the original (by the time I noticed, old filter was in waste container). Essentially my oil filter is the lowest point of the undercarriage. What are others observations?

I changed mine this past weekend. No snags whatsoever, but I've got nearly every tool known to man. Didn't spill a drop.
