Coffee = gasoline to jetfuel ... irony considering your userid is regarding fuel.

What point is it that you are waiting to fillup (when you are below 1 gallon tracked by gauge)?

I have noticed the same. fill before reserve and the tank hits 8/8

Wait for about 3 or 4 tamkfuls before trying to figure out what the gauge is doing. After that, they tend to settle down and work right.

I don't know about that jim. No matter when I fill - 1/2 tank to fumes - it's a coin toss whether I end up with 7 or the full 7 bars. I fill generally at the same place, same pump, same time, same technique. I think it's just a "normal fluctuation" albeit an annoying one.

I've been waiting 3 years now for the gas gauge to settle down. Matters on what gas station I fill it at. Sometime full sometimes 7 bars. One or those things you write off, like the purge valve noise on a smart car.

Love this forum.... It proves you are not the only crazy....

Or does it prove there really is an alternate reality?

I use the same methd and rarely get the 7 bars...

put it on auto fill lowest setting possible. Wash the windows -usually the pump shuts off while I am cleaning the windshield- Cleaning the rest of the glass allows the gas to settle in the tank. Still using th slowest setting possible, fill until it shuts off again. Thats it. *** some fill hoses won't shut off when manually filling on a slow setting so watch your shoes!!**

Works for me, never had an overfill issue and as I saild, rarely the 7/8 bar fillups.

I have a problem with my newer Smart reading 7/8 but it is always dead-on once I get to 6/8 bars and below. Almost always I can judge around 45 miles on a bar, give or take a few miles. BTW - I have been averaging around 2-3mpg's better since I got the Scangauge installed. - Thanks Darrel.
EDITED MY COMMENT FOR ACCURACY! the thread wasn't loading so i went ahead and posted a comment. i use the fastest flow setting on the nozzle and fill to first click, but i've noticed the last few fill ups that Gizmo's gas gauge only reads 7/8 full.. yet i can still drive about 100 miles before that first tick disappears. i do use the same station and the same gas grade, i fill at night as well. but next time i'll try a slower fill setting and fill before the last gallon countdown appears.
